Origins of La Finca Loca Ranch
Southern California natives Shanon and Rick discovered Tehachapi by chance during a family road trip in 2010 and immediately fell in love with its beauty and tranquility. Soon after, they purchased an off-grid piece of land and spent the next several years escaping there whenever possible, camping under the stars and enjoying the peaceful mountain landscape while raising their family.
In 2020, after their youngest child left for college, Rick—a retired building contractor—and Shanon—a retired home designer—made the move to the property full-time and began bringing their vision for La Finca Loca Ranch to life. Starting with raw land, they built roads, installed utilities and septic systems, drilled a well, set up wind generators, and constructed the ranch's beloved barn. Today, their dream home is taking shape on the property, and until it's complete, they're happily living in a small house on the ranch while continuing to grow and share the place they love.

Your Questions, Answered.
Tehachapi is conveniently located 2 hours NE from LAX airport, or 1 hour S from Bakersfield airport, if that’s an option for you. My property is at 5,000 ft elevation. There is a 3 mile dirt road up to the ranch.
Where is Tehachapi?
The Southern Pacific Railroad line through the Tehachapi Pass was completed in July 1876 and became the final link connecting San Francisco and Los Angeles. Of course the native Kawaiisu (pronounced: "ka-wai-ah-soo" or also called the Nuooah people, have been here for centuries. We honor those native people on our land.
Downtown Tehachpi offers lots of dining, shopping and entertainment opportunites. Please visit links below to explore.
I’ve never heard of Tehachapi. Is there stuff to do?
I have dietary restrictions. Will that a problem?
We have a rotating team of talents chefs who are willing and able to meet all your dietary needs. You’ll be sent a questionnaire regarding restrictions and preferences prior to your arrival.
Our ranch, enjoys four beautiful seasons. Summers are warm and sunny with cool evenings, while spring and fall bring mild temperatures, wildflowers, and colorful landscapes. Winters can be chilly, with occasional snowfall adding to the area's mountain charm. Thanks to our elevation, mornings and evenings are often cooler year-round, so we recommend dressing in layers for maximum comfort. Retreats and events will be planned according to seasons and weather forecast.
Our ranch is nestled in the mountains, making it home to a variety of wildlife. It's common to spot deer, gophers, frogs, ravens, hawks, and other native birds throughout the property. More elusive residents, such as bobcats and mountain lions, also inhabit the surrounding area, though sightings are rare. As with any rural environment, snakes and insects are present, but Tehachapi is surprisingly insect/spider free. You may hear the howls of wolves at night from a neighboring property where they are safely kept in an enclosure—there are no wild wolves in the area. Our neighboring ranches are also home to free-range cows that occasionally wander through the property, adding to the authentic ranch experience.
While it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings in nature, you're far more likely to be nuzzled by one of our friendly donkeys, goats, or horses than encounter anything dangerous.
